From this Monday that is 17th Feb 2025 users can not rely on last minute recharges if their fastag has been blacklisted for more than 60 minutes before reaching the toll.

Users Failing to recharge your FASTag or addressing account issues could now result in hefty penalties. As the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) implements new validation rules from February 17, users must comply with stricter deadlines to prevent disruptions at toll plazas.
Some changes in Fastag Validation:
According to the NPCI circular dated January 28, FASTag transactions will now be validated based on specific timeframes related to when the tag is scanned at a toll plaza. Two key conditions have been introduced:
60 minutes before the toll scan: If a FASTag has been blacklisted, hotlisted, or marked as low balance for more than an hour before reaching the toll plaza, the transaction will be declined.
10 minutes after the toll scan: If the FASTag remains inactive or blacklisted within 10 minutes of being scanned, the transaction will also be rejected.
If both conditions are met, the transaction will be declined with error code 176, and the user will incur a penalty of twice the toll fee.
Impact on Fastag Users:
There Fastag accounts are divided into two status which is whitelisted as active and Blacklist as inactive users. Reason for blacklisting are:
- Discrepancies in vehicle registration details
- KYC verification Pending
Under the updated regulations, users cannot make last-minute recharges if their FASTag has been blacklisted for over 60 minutes before reaching the toll booth. However, a recharge processed within 10 minutes of the transaction attempt may allow them to pay only the standard toll fee instead of a penalty.
