Large number of students were protesting and chanting the slogan  “We Want justice” and blaming  mishandling by university officials.

Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra said: “We have registered a case at Infocity Police Station based on the allegation that a male student abated her suicide. The accused student is in police custody and subjected to interrogation. The police have seized the mobile phone, laptop and other gadgets of the deceased woman. We are undertaking a scientific investigation into the matter.”

A university official stated, “The deceased girl’s room has been sealed by the police, and her body remains in the mortuary until her parents arrive.”

On Monday, two buses carrying Nepali students arrived at Cuttack Railway Station. “We were instructed to vacate our hostel rooms and were transported to the railway station. Our exams were scheduled for February 28…,” a male student shared with reporters at the station.

Students were left anxious and frustrated as many did not have the required tickets to travel back home. Several criticized the university’s sudden move to suspend Nepali students, highlighting the timing as especially unfair, given that they were in the midst of preparing for their upcoming exams in the last week of February.
