Modi and Trump Meet:

During their recent meeting, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former U.S. President Donald Trump engaged in discussions covering key areas such as trade relations, energy agreements, and immigration policies. A significant point of contention was the deportation of illegal Indian immigrants, with Trump’s administration actively sending them back in batches, some even in handcuffs.

To ease trade friction, Modi extended trade concessions on Harley-Davidson motorcycles. However, Trump remained firm, hinting at the possibility of imposing tariffs, reinforcing his tough approach to trade negotiations.

In a surprising twist, Trump made an unexpected announcement during a joint press conference with Modi at the White House, adding an element of unpredictability to the proceedings.

Trump on Indian Tariff policies:

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has frequently criticized India’s high import duties, labeling the country as a “Tariff King.” The U.S. has raised concerns over India’s steep tariffs on several American goods, including a 70% duty on chickpeas and a 35% duty on diagnostic reagents.

Additionally, India imposes significant import duties on agricultural products such as almonds (42-120%), cherries and cranberries (30%), and apples (50%). These high tariffs have been a recurring point of contention in U.S.-India trade relations, drawing sharp remarks from Trump on multiple occasions.
